In her latest round of charitable giving, billionaire philanthropist MacKenzie Scott donated $122.6 million to 38 Big Brothers Big Sisters of America agencies, including Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Iowa, which received $1.5 million. The organization works to ensure youths ages 5-18 have access to mentoring experiences that empower them with a plan for their future. “The day I received a call from MacKenzie Scott’s team, I was overcome and overjoyed for BBBSCI,” CEO Renee Hardman said in a release. “It is a moment that took my breath away. Words cannot express how this transformational gift will allow Big Brothers Big Sisters to create impactful, positive and lasting changes for our youth. Investing in our youth is paramount for our future.” Scott has donated to several other Iowa organizations recently as part of her pledge to donate most of her wealth, including Easterseals Iowa and Greater Des Moines Habitat for Humanity.
