Borlaug statue committee formed

Gov. Terry Branstad announced the appointees to a committee charged with raising funds to commission a statue of Norman Borlaug that will be sent to the U.S. Capitol Building.

The Borlaug statue will replace the statue of James Harlan, which will return to Iowa.

The committee consists of Patty Cownie, community volunteer in Des Moines; Jerry Crawford, owner of Crawford and Quilty Law Firm; Teri Goodmann, assistant city manager for Dubuque; Kenneth Quinn, president of the World Food Prize Foundation; Dyan Smith, a Cedar Rapids community volunteer; Joanne Stockdale, president of Northern Iowa Die Casting Inc.; and John Thompson, chairman and CEO of Cresco Union Savings Bank.
