Boys & Girls Clubs to add club at East High

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Iowa announced Thursday it plans to establish a new teen-serving club site, the E.T. Meredith Jr. Boys & Girls Club, at East High School. The site, which is in the design phase, marks another crucial step in BGCCI’s Club Pathways capital campaign to serve the youth of Des Moines from kindergarten through their high school graduation, the organization said in a release. The club, targeted to open in fall 2019 at the high school’s Walker Street Building, will accommodate up to 100 youths for structured after-school and summer program. The lead gift was donated by the Edwin T. Meredith Foundation. Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Iowa also announced it has has exceeded its  $11.8 million goal for Phase I of its Club Pathways fundraising campaign, and has begun fundraising for Phase II, which includes three additional projects, one new club site and two significant expansions of current clubs.
