During a Transportation Day 2012 event, Gov. Terry Branstad announced that the Iowa Department of Transportation (DOT) has found $50 million in Road Use Tax Fund efficiencies that will be put toward road repairs.

Iowa DOT Director Paul Trombino III met with cities and counties to review the operation, maintenance and improvement of Iowa’s public roadway system to identify ways to jointly increase efficiency.

Trombino presented Branstad with a report earlier this week detailing 13 efficiencies that include $33 million in annual savings and $17 million in one-time savings. Some measures will require legislative action, approval of the Iowa Transportation Commission or cooperation with other federal, state and local agencies.
