Broadlawns’ new pediatric clinic to open Sept. 9
Broadlawns Medical Center recently opened its new medical office building, which is designed to provide easier access to outpatient services and a “medical home” for patients, said hospital officials.
The building, located on the west side of the Broadlawns campus at 1801 Hickman Road, houses Broadlawns’ Primary Healthcare Clinic. A new children’s clinic, made possible through a $863,000 grant from Variety – The Children’s Charity, has been constructed in the building, and the pediatric unit will move in on Sept. 9.
“The goal of the medical office building is ease of access,” said Mikki Stier, Broadlawns’ senior vice president of communications. “With this clinic, it’s right on street level and you don’t have to go through (the main hospital).”
Broadlawns completed a reconstruction of its third-floor clinic spaces in the main hospital less than three years ago, but that space is now filled to capacity, as are the second-floor clinics. Additional space in the medical office building is already roughed out for potential expansion. In the future, the building will be equipped with a portable X-ray machine and will feature a laboratory so that clinic patients won’t have to visit the main hospital to receive those basic services, Stier said.
