Broadlawns to launch palm scanner system
Broadlawns Medical Center will install 35 palm scanners in a move to improve patient security and make registration more efficient, the hospital announced today. The Des Moines hospital will be the first in Iowa and one of only 12 hospitals nationwide to use the advanced technology, Broadlawns officials said. The hospital invested $90,000 to purchase the system. The PatientSecure scanners use near-infrared light to illuminate vein patterns to identify patients. Initial registration with the system takes less than a minute to complete and less time in subsequent visits. Patients will begin using the new system next week.
