The Des Moines Buccaneers now own the land they skate over.

Blackbeard Management LLC, which owns the hockey team, paid $900,000 to buy the 5 acres of land at 7201 Hickman Road on which Buccaneers Arena is located from the city of Urbandale.

Urbandale City Manager A.J. Johnson said negotiations with Blackbeard Management began last fall and concluded in late March.

Blackbeard Management had leased the land for $1 a year.

Johnson said the bonds used to cover the city’s purchase of the land cannot be redeemed until 2014. The $900,000 will be deposited in an account and used to make annual debt payments until that date.
