Buelt announces retirement from Bankers Trust; Stork named successor

Bankers Trust announced today that Executive Vice President and Chief Risk Officer Gary Buelt will retire on June 3. He has served in the role since 2015, overseeing the bank’s enterprise risk management functions, including asset quality, compliance, financial intelligence and legal.

“For the last 21 years, Gary has been a key figure in helping ensure Bankers Trust could remain a stable and secure banking partner for clients,” Don Coffin, Bankers Trust CEO and president, said in a prepared statement. “He has been integral in maintaining the bank’s strong credit quality and sound enterprise risk approach, and we wish him the best in his retirement.”

Emily Stork, senior vice president – general counsel and senior risk officer at Bankers Trust, will succeed Buelt. Stork joined Bankers Trust in 2017. She previously worked as an attorney for Dentons Davis Brown and as the assistant county attorney in eastern Iowa Jones County. She received a bachelor’s degree from Luther College and her law degree from Drake University.

She is a member of the Iowa Bar Association, the Business Record’s Forty Under 40 Class of 2021, and was in the inaugural Iowa Bankers Association Leaders in Advocacy program.
