Each year since 2005, Iowa dentists have provided free treatment to elderly and disabled residents through the Iowa Donated Dental Service (DDS) program. Since the Iowa Dental Association endorsed the establishment of the program, Iowa dentists have donated services worth more than $875,000 to 349 individuals who would not have otherwise received treatment.
“Every year the Iowa Dental Association challenges its member dentists to continue volunteering for such important initiatives to ensure all Iowans have access to the care they need,” said Dr. Steven Bradley, a dentist in Cascade and association president. “Our next major effort is to provide free care to anyone on a first-come, first-served basis at the Iowa Mission of Mercy scheduled for Sept. 25-26 at the Iowa Speedway in Newton.”
Iowa DDS is a program of the Foundation of Dentistry for the Handicapped, with funding of administrative activities by the Iowa Department of Public Health. For more information, visit www.IowaDental.org and click on Community Services.
Below are figures for the past fiscal year, which ended on June 30. The goal for the fiscal year that began July 1 is to provide 140 Iowans with at least $310,000 worth of care.
