Iowa State University President Gregory Geoffroy announced that benefactors to Campaign Iowa State: With Pride and Purpose have committed gifts totaling more than $804 million since July 1, 2003, surpassing the $800 million goal of the fund-raising campaign. Nearly all of the gifts are “restricted” and must be used as the donors have specified to support specific scholarships, faculty positions, programs and facilities, and they cannot be used to substitute for state funds or tuition dollars for the general operation of the university. To date, more than $235 million in scholarship and direct support to Iowa State students has been provided, along with an additional 700 scholarships and fellowships; the number of endowed faculty positions has doubled to 150 from 75; and 15 campus facilities have been constructed or renovated with a combination of private gifts and state appropriations. More than 113,000 alumni, friends, corporations and foundations have made a contribution during Campaign Iowa State, including 34,000 first-time donors. Faculty and staff giving has surpassed $30 million from more than 4,000 Iowa State employees, including retired faculty and staff members and the Iowa State University Foundation staff. The campaign concludes June 30, 2011.
