The Carroll Times Herald, an Iowa newsroom serving the Carroll community online and twice-weekly in print, is one of 13 North American news organizations joining the Facebook Journalism Project’s Local News Accelerator for digital subscriptions — and the smallest. The paper is co-owned by third-generation family members Douglas and Tom Burns, and the business dates back to 1868. The Local News Accelerator is a three-month program with workshops administered by nonprofit journalism organizations, according to Facebook. The accelerator is designed to guide newsrooms in expanding digital subscription services. Other news organizations joining the accelerator are the Albuquerque Journal, Anchorage Daily News, Arkansas Democrat-Gazette, Daily Memphian, Globe and Mail in Canada, Los Angeles Times, Philadelphia Tribune, Charleston Post and Courier, La Presse in Canada, Tampa Bay Times, Times-Picayune and New Orleans Advocate, and the Salt Lake Tribune.
