Casey’s sells fewer gallons of gasoline, more food
Ankeny-based Casey’s General Stores Inc. reported that sales of prepared food and fountain drinks increased 11.6 percent in March compared with March 2010 in stores open for at least one year. In a report to the Securities and Exchange Commission, the convenience store chain said sales of groceries and other merchandise increased 5.6 percent.
Same-store gasoline gallons sold decreased 0.6 percent compared with a year ago. The average retail price of gasoline sold during March was $3.41 per gallon, and the profit margin surpassed the company’s fiscal 2011 goal of 13.5 cents per gallon.
