Fortune magazine named Cedar Rapids barbecue business owner Willie Ray Fairley as No.16 among the World’s 50 Greatest Leaders, a list Fairley shares with worldwide figures like Jacinda Ardern, Stacey Abrams, Dolly Parton and Malala Yousafzai. Fairley, who owns Willie Ray’s Q Shack, is recognized for his work feeding Cedar Rapids community members for free in the four weeks after the 2020 derecho devastated the city, wiping out homes, businesses and electricity. In February, Fairley took barbecue to Texas and again fed thousands for two weeks after a deep freeze caused catastrophic power outages. Fairley’s profile by Fortune is available online. Fairley was previously named to the Corridor Business Journal’s 2020 25 Most Influential in the Corridor list. Photo provided by Corridor Business Journal
