The Iowa Department of Cultural Affairs will host its Celebrate Iowa Gala on Dec. 9 to raise funds for the State Historical Society of Iowa. According to a news release, the gala, in its 11th year, will offer a mix of highlights and traditions that recognize the state’s art, history, film, creativity and community spirit. In past years, funds from the gala have helped the State Historical Society develop new exhibits and educational programs, an online catalog of the state’s collection of historical materials, and a mobile museum in a custom-built Winnebago that travels to all 99 Iowa counties. The Celebrate Iowa Gala is scheduled from 7 to 11 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 9, at the Scottish Rite Consistory, 519 Park St., in Des Moines.
