Employers announced plans to cut 32,239 workers from their payrolls in August, according to global outplacement consultants at Challenger, Gray & Christmas Inc.

That’s the lowest number of monthly job cuts by U.S.-based firms since December 2010. August cuts were down 12.5 percent from July, and 37 percent from August 2011.

Since Jan. 1, employers have announced 352,185 planned job cuts, down 3 percent from the 2011 eight-month total of 363,334.
