Chinese Vice President Xi Jinping, who is set to become China’s next president, will visit Iowa and meet with Gov. Terry Branstad and Lt. Gov. Kim Reynolds during his trip to the United States next month.

The vice president will also visit California and Washington, D.C.

Branstad met with Xi last September during a trade mission to China, where the two talked about his 1985 trip to Iowa as a Hebei Province party official, and Branstad invited him to visit the state again.

“I want to thank Vice President Xi for taking me up on my offer to visit Iowa,” Branstad said. “The strong relationship Iowa has with the incoming leader of China has economic benefits that are beyond measure. This is a tremendous opportunity for Iowa, and we will make the most of our time with Vice President Xi.”
