EMC Insurance Cos. is holding to a tried-and-true design for its new office building at 219 Eighth St. in downtown Des Moines. The $23 million structure will fit right in with EMC’s campus in the 700 blocks of Mulberry and Walnut streets, judging by renderings the company released today.

Plans include below-grade parking, space for tenants on the ground level facing Walnut and additional space for electrical, mechanical and printing equipment. The second, third and fourth floors will accommodate offices, conference rooms, computer equipment, a wellness facility and a new skywalk concourse across Eighth. Brooks Borg Skiles Architecture Engineering in Des Moines was selected to design the new facility; Neumann Bros. Inc. was selected as the general contractor. The construction is in its early stages and is expected to be completed in early 2017.
