Construction sector adds 33,000 jobs
The construction industry added 33,000 jobs in February – the sector’s largest monthly gain since March 2007 – according to an analysis of new federal employment data released today by the Associated General Contractors of America. However, the industry’s jobless rate still stands at 21.8 percent, and construction employment is down by more than 2.2 million from its April 2006 peak. The largest gains in hiring came from the nonresidential specialty trade sector, which added 16,700 jobs during the month. The nonresidential building sector, which eliminated 2,000 jobs, was the only segment of the construction industry to shed jobs in February.
