Construction of an apartment complex in West Des Moines that will include more than 400 units is expected to begin in November and be ready for occupancy by June 2023, according to the project’s developer. The Village of Sugar Creek is located on the northeast corner of South 88th Street and Booneville Road and will overlook Des Moines University’s new 88-acre campus. The West Des Moines City Council this week approved the first reading of an ordinance changing the zoning of the property. Developer Daniel Pettit, CEO of Encompass Holdings LLC, described the development as “a vibrant, attractive addition to” West Des Moines. Amenities in the apartment complex will include a fitness center, swimming pool and clubhouse. Walkways and trails will connect to Des Moines University’s campus. Future project phases will include townhouses and a neighborhood plaza with retail businesses and restaurants. To see the proposed land use changes to the property, click here.
