Contractor pleads guilty to defrauding program for disabled veterans

134 wordsAll Latest News, Real Estate and DevelopmentOmaha-based contractor Ram Hingorani, 50, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Stephanie Rose to six months in a halfway house as part of a sentence of two years of probation after he pleaded guilty to charges in connection with a scheme to obtain government contracts for businesses owned by disabled veterans, according to a release. Hingorani’s company, Midwest Paving Inc., was sentenced to two years of probation after pleading guilty to money laundering in furtherance of the scheme. Midwest Contracting Inc., another company utilized to perpetrate the fraud, was sentenced to two years of probation after pleading guilty to major program fraud and wire fraud. In addition, the defendants were ordered to forfeit nearly $3.6 million that was seized by the government and determined by the court to be profits of the fraud scheme.
