Operators of Shag’s, a nightclub in downtown Des Moines’ Court Avenue district, must begin a 14-day suspension of the bar’s liquor license by Dec. 1, according to information provided by the city of Des Moines’ legal department. The City Council this week unanimously approved an agreement reached with the establishment after an investigation by police found that lewd behavior occurred during a September event at Shag’s, located at 216 Court Ave. The operators of Shag’s waived the right to a hearing and agreed to the settlement, which includes a $1,000 fine. During the suspension, Shag’s cannot serve, sell, give away or allow the consumption of alcoholic beverages on its premises. The settlement comes as elected officials and others search for ways to quell crime and other problems plaguing the Court Avenue entertainment district.
