Credit card debt lowest in Iowa
For the first time since 2007, national credit card loan delinquencies and average credit card debt have declined, and Iowa’s figures are among the lowest.
In a report that was released today, TransUnion.com said the national average credit card debt per credit card borrower dropped from $1,694 in the previous quarter to $1,673. The lowest average credit card debt per credit card borrower was in Iowa, which reported $1,252 per borrower. The next lowest was North Dakota with an average credit card debt of $1,265 per borrower.
However, though the national average dropped more than one percent, the total remains more than five percent higher than in the same period last year.
Furthermore, the national ratio of credit card borrowers delinquent on one or more of their credit cards declined 12.5 percent from the previous quarter to 1.9 percent in the first quarter. The total still remains higher than in the same period last year, when it stood at 0.91 percent. The state reporting the lowest rate of delinquent payments was North Dakota at 0.67 percent. Nevada reported the highest delinquency at 1.74 percent.
