Des Moines Area Regional Transit Authority (DART) saw a 10 percent increase in ridership for the fiscal year ended June 30, officials said today.

Ridership exceeded 4.5 million, the third-highest number since 1984. DART General Manager Elizabeth Presutti credited the rise in ridership in part to the price of gasoline, availability of public transit service, and increased demand.

DART added service in mid-June and will add more later in the year as part of its DART Forward 2035 Plan.
