The Des Moines Area Regional Transit Authority (DART) will hold a ribbon cutting on Oct. 23 for its new $21 million transit hub, DART Central Station, at 620 Cherry St., and will hold a public open house from 2 to 4 p.m. on Oct. 28.

The hub will open for business on Nov. 12, with service scheduled to move from the Walnut Street transit mall on Nov. 23.

DART will also add two routes on Nov. 23. Route 52 will be an express route from downtown to Jordan Creek, with a stop at Valley West Mall. Route 60 will be a loop that connects University Avenue, Ingersoll Avenue and downtown.

The transit hub’s move off Walnut Street will open up development opportunities along the street. Click here to read a story about the plans for Walnut Street.
