The Des Moines Area Regional Transit Authority (DART) will be holding public meetings and a public hearing to consider proposed changes to bus service, as well as an increase in bus fares. The changes are part of DART’s effort to make up its budget shortfall of nearly $2.3 million.

A fare hike would raise the adult regular cash fare and the adult express cash fare 25 cents to $1.75 and $2, respectively.

DART hopes to implement the changes on April 25. A decision on the proposed changes won’t be made at the public meetings or the public hearing, but based on public input from the meeting, the DART Commission will consider accepting, rejecting or modifying the changes at its February meeting.

The public meetings will be Jan. 5, Jan. 6, Jan. 13, two on Jan. 14, Jan. 19, Jan. 21 and Jan. 25. The final public hearing will be held at 5 p.m. on Jan. 26 at 1100 DART Way, Des Moines.
