A northeast Iowa electric co-op plans to change its net-metering policy in a way that could hamper efforts to expand rooftop solar energy installations in several counties, Midwest Energy News reportedAs of Jan. 1, the Allamakee Clayton Electric Cooperative will require owners of the panels to balance their accounts every month instead of every year. That means they will have less time to generate more power than they use. For example, the excess power typically produced in the summer could not be used to offset bills in the fall and winter, when production typically falls off.
