Deere & Co. has announced a new round of layoffs at its Quad Cities facilities, including 150 from its Harvester Works in East Moline, Ill., the Quad-City Times reported. The affected workers in East Moline make combines and the front-end equipment of combines, called headers. Also laid off are 30 workers at the Deere Davenport Works who make construction and forestry equipment. Deere had been counting on improved sales in construction to offset weak farm equipment sales. “We thought construction would be up, but that hasn’t happened yet,” Ken Golden, a Deere spokesman, told the Times. The Harvester Works layoffs are effective Sept. 18, while the Davenport Works layoffs will begin Oct. 2.
