Delinquent property taxes up

The amount of delinquent property taxes in Polk County has increased by 8 percent compared with last year, Polk County Treasurer Mary Maloney announced Wednesday. The number of parcels that are delinquent has decreased by 5.5 percent during the past year, she said. The number of delinquent parcels is 4,325, down 5.5 percent from last year’s 4,575, and the amount owed is $9.12 million, up 8 percent from last year’s $8.46 million. Payments on delinquent taxes must be received by the end of business June 24, or they will be sold at the annual tax sales scheduled June 27 at 7:30 a.m. at the Iowa Events Center.
