Democrats will propose a compromise plan today that would extend the payroll tax cut and provide a "serious" way to pay the more than $200 billion price tag.

Kent Conrad, chairman of the Senate Budget Committee, CNNMoney.com reported. Last week, senators voted down competing plans from Democrats and Republicans.
