Des Moines Heritage Center project receives $400,000 CAT grant
The Enhance Iowa Board has awarded a $400,000 Community Attraction and Tourism grant to a railroad depot renovation and event center project in Des Moines. The award was approved at today’s meeting in Des Moines. The $2.3 million project will fully restore the 1901 East Des Moines Union Depot, with construction of an event center adjacent to the depot. The planned Des Moines Heritage Center, a project of the Des Moines Heritage Trust, “will be a collaborative space supporting a variety of heritage organizations and provide a venue for community events,” according to a release from the Iowa Economic Development Authority.
