The Des Moines City Council learned today that residents are plenty pleased with their city, just less so than in previous years. Results of a survey that has been conducted annually since 2004 gave the city high marks for quality of city libraries, 88 percent; quality of fire protection, 86 percent; number and locations of city parks, 85 percent; garbage collection, 85 percent; and overall feeling of safety, 74 percent. Many of the internal categories that have been measured for the last several years have seen long-term increases in satisfaction over the last five years, according to a release. These include customer service, services offered through the Neighborhood Based Service Delivery program, and access to information in alternative languages and formats. The results dropped slightly from prior years and emphasize that the city should improve enforcement of city ordinances and improve neighborhoods and major streets, flood protection and stormwater infrastructure.
