The Des Moines Streetstyle Open marks its fifth year this weekend, expanding its reach through a new partnership with USA Skateboarding, which will transform the multi-day festival into a national showcase for amateur and professional skaters, a news release said. Featuring competitions at key downtown locations, including Principal Park, Cowles Commons, Central Library and Lauridsen Skatepark, the event will include cash-for-tricks, Red Bull’s Best Trick and both street and park contests for men and women. Notable skaters such as Leo Romero, Jake Ilardi, Chris Roberts and others are set to compete. New this year, a Sensory Activation Vehicle will provide an inclusive space for guests with sensory needs, and adaptive skate demos are scheduled for Saturday at Lauridsen Skatepark. The festival is free, open to the public and includes music, vendors and food.
