An analysis by David P. Lind Benchmark found that employers within 50 miles of Des Moines are more likely to offer health and dental insurance than those in the rest of the state.

The share of Des Moines-area employers offering health insurance is about 6 percent more than the statewide average. Cedar Rapids, Mason City and Davenport-area employers fell below the statewide average by 5 percent. 

In addition, the share of employers offering health insurance is 19 percent higher in the Des Moines area than in Dubuque.

Des Moines-area employers offer dental insurance 19 percent more than the statewide average. Employers in Council Bluffs, Mason City, Cedar Rapids, Sioux City, and Dubuque offered dental insurance at less than the average rate. Dubuque was 17 percent below average.

Davenport area employers were at the state average for offering dental insurance.
