Digital operations and TV leading the way for Gannett
Virginia-based Gannett Co. Inc., publisher of The Des Moines Register, reported a 10.3 percent increase in digital operating revenues for the third quarter. According to an Oct. 15 filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission, the increase “reflects very high single-digit revenue growth at CareerBuilder as well as double-digit revenue growth at PointRoll.” CareerBuilder is a job-search website, and PointRoll is a marketing site.
Profit in the digital segment “excluding special items was up 16.4 percent,” Gannett reported.
In its broadcasting operations, Gannett said revenues increased 22.3 percent compared with the same quarter a year earlier, a result of “strong core advertising results and substantially higher political spending,” according to the filing.
On the print publishing side, Gannett reported a 5.1 percent decline in advertising revenues for the quarter.
