The second phase of the DMACC Newton Campus Legacy Plaza Greenspace project has received a fundraising challenge from Chris and Denise Vernon, who announced a $250,000 Vernon Challenge Grant to help secure funds for the project. Through Nov. 15, the couple will match every new or increased donation to the Greenspace project by double. “If a donor gives $500, then we will match it with $1,000,” Chris Vernon, chairman and CEO of the Vernon Company and a member of the DMACC Foundation Board, said in a statement. “Even families who’ve already pledged can increase their gift and have the difference matched. It’s our way of helping the community bring this vision to life.” The Newton Legacy Plaza Greenspace project is transforming the site of Maytag Plant One into a multiuse destination that connects the DMACC Newton Campus to downtown Newton.
