Des Moines Area Community College received a 2015 Healthy Iowa Award last week during the Healthiest State Initiative’s “Taking Back Our Health” conference. The award recognizes those who have developed and implemented practices resulting in sustainable environmental change and healthier living for Iowans. DMACC was recognized for allowing employees 30-minute wellness breaks twice a week and offering a variety of fitness programs including canoe races, snowshoeing and skiing. Founder’s Awards were also given to organizations for helping establish and continue to support the Healthiest State Initiative. Those awarded include Bankers Trust, Des Moines; Hy-Vee Inc., West Des Moines; the Meyocks Group, West Des Moines; and Wellmark Blue Cross and Blue Shield, Des Moines.
