The Des Moines Area Religious Council (DMARC) will launch a year-long 60th anniversary celebration with a premier gala event, “Bow Ties & Bowls,” on Aug. 6. The event will be held at the John and Mary Pappajohn Education Center in Des Moines. Proceeds will benefit the DMARC Food Pantry Network and other DMARC programs. The evening will also highlight MovetheFood, a DMARC-led community-wide initiative to end hunger in Polk County. Former Lt. Gov. Sally Pederson will provide keynote remarks. Other guest speakers include Matt McGarvey, director of the Wellmark Foundation, and Norene Mostkoff, executive director of HCI Care Services. Guests will also have the opportunity to purchase one-of-a-kind bowls created on-site by artists and expert potters David Dahlquist and Brian Frederiksen. For more information, including a full roster of the event host committee and sponsors, visit www.dmreligious.org/BowTiesBowls.
