Here’s a way to make money off your acreage. The Iowa State Forest Nursery will offer a special on high-value seedling packets this month as a way to encourage landowners to plant trees that will have significant value later. “The packet consists of five tree species selected for their potential to generate future income,” state forester Paul Tauke said in a statement. Iowa’s hardwoods are in high demand as part of a $4 billion wood industry that employs 18,000 and has a payroll of more than $900 million. The cost of 250 bare-root seedlings is $110, the same price as a regular 200-seedling packet. Included are white oak, red oak, black walnut, black cherry and bur oak.
