DOT offers cities, counties grants from Volkswagen settlement
The Iowa Department of Transportation is offering $4.9 million in grants to cities and counties and some other entities for buses, trucks and other selected equipment as part of a settlement with Volkswagen. The company altered vehicles between 2009 and 2016 to pass emissions tests by bypassing pollution control equipment. Iowa will receive approximately $21 million, which will be distributed in several rounds over the next few years. Applications are due by 5 p.m. Jan. 18.
