Downtown car show to offer test drives in electric vehicles
Drive Electric DSM Car Show on Sept. 14 in downtown Des Moines will give you a chance to drive or ride in an electric vehicle, the Des Moines Area Metropolitan Planning Organization reported. Part of a series of events nationwide that week, the Des Moines show runs from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m on 12th Street between Locust Street and Grand Avenue. Food trucks will sell lunch items. Iowa has about 1,000 plug-in electric vehicles, and that could grow to 100,000 by 2040, the MPO reported. Electric vehicles have about half the carbon footprint of a gasoline vehicle.
