Drake students take on grassland conservation work through new program
Now in its second year, Drake University’s DarlingCorps program, part of the Darling Institute, engages high school recruits in rural development projects. The initiative provides donor-funded scholarships for students to attend Drake and participate in rural service projects during their undergraduate studies. According to a news release, DarlingCorps students have joined a collaborative conservation project restoring Iowa and Missouri grasslands through various land management strategies. The program spans four years, aiming to manage 7,000 acres of prairie and oak savanna annually. Drake law students specializing in agricultural law will contribute by exploring market-driven economic development for Midwest livestock producers.
