Prescription drug abuse is Iowa’s fastest-growing form of substance abuse, and addiction to powerful pain relievers is also fueling more heroin use. To counter that trend, the Iowa Department of Public Safety on Thursday will offer a Take Back site at the Pape State Office Building on the Capitol complex, 212 E. Seventh St. Collection hours in the lobby will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Drop off medicines in sealed containers with personal identification removed. Most of Iowa’s 100-plus other locations participating in this week’s National Prescription Drug Take Back will collect medicines Saturday.
