The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has proposed a settlement with the former Townsend Industries chemical storage facility in Pleasant Hill, where the agency responded to groundwater pollution from operations in the 1970s and 1980s. The agreement will require the firms that EPA identified as responsible parties to help clean up the site, which includes a parcel at 4400 Vandalia Road. A variety of hazardous wastes or hazardous chemicals have been detected at the site, including acetone.
