Events this week expected to bring up to 70,000 tourists
The Greater Des Moines Convention and Visitors Bureau (GDMCVB) is alerting people to expect an influx of tourists in town this week.
The NCAA Track and Field Outdoor Championships begin on Wednesday and last through Saturday at Drake Stadium, and the World Pork Expo runs from Wednesday through Friday at the Iowa State Fairgrounds.
The GDMCVB expects up to 40,000 attendees and $4 million in economic impact for the track championships, and up to 30,000 people and $2.3 million for the World Pork Expo. It noted that hotel rooms are nearly sold out.
