Farm Bureau Financial Services, FFA replace trees destroyed by derecho
Farm Bureau Financial Services and the Future Farmers of America partnered to replace trees destroyed by last summer’s derecho in Benton County. Farm Bureau agent Teresa Meyer and members of the Vinton-Shellsburg FFA planted 20 trees throughout the county on Saturday. Trees planted included maple, oak and flowering crab. Frazier Nursery donated the supplies and directions for the project. Meyer said in a news release that Farm Bureau Financial Services is committed to helping Iowans recover from the Aug. 10 storm, including replacing trees that were destroyed. Gabby Powers, Vinton-Shellsburg FFA adviser, said her group was happy to participate in the project that helped teach students “that a little hard work can go a long way in helping our community move forward.”
