Farm groups offer to pay legal fees in water lawsuit
The Iowa Farm Bureau Federation and the Iowa Corn Growers Association have offered to help pay legal costs for the supervisors in Buena Vista, Calhoun and Sac counties who are being sued by the Des Moines Water Works over water quality. The supervisors act as trustees for the 10 drainage districts being targeted in the lawsuit concerning high nitrate levels in the Raccoon River, a source of drinking water for 500,000 central Iowa residents, reports The Des Moines Register. The farm groups say they are involved because the litigation could hurt farmers across the nation.
