The Federal Home Loan Bank of Des Moines moved its 300 local employees into a renovated office building Tuesday at 909 Locust St. The move marks nearly a full year of work to upgrade and add contemporary office features to the six-story building, which the Federal Home Loan Bank of Des Moines bought from Graham Construction last year. Voya Financial was the previous tenant.

The bank will occupy the top two and a half floors, and commercial and retail tenants will lease the remaining space. Dwolla, LightEdge and Starbucks Coffee have announced plans to move into the building.

Graham Construction and Substance Architecture led the renovation, which included a new roof, elevators and HVAC system, with the updates designed to improve the work environment for employees.

Changes have brought in more natural light and created collaborative areas and open office spaces; they include a new fitness center and restaurant. Some of the changes will be completed early next year. Click here to watch a video of the renovation.

“We are excited to get all our Des Moines employees into a single location,” Mike Wilson, president and CEO of FHLB Des Moines, said in a release. “The bank has been located downtown since 1932; moving into our own space demonstrates our longstanding commitment to this vibrant and growing community.”
