The World Food Prize plans to present the Robert D. Ray Iowa SHARES Humanitarian Award to the Rev. Joan Fumetti and Ron De Weerd for their leadership in building the Iowa Foods Resource Bank program into a prominent agricultural assistance program. The bank links farmers to small-scale counterparts around the world. A U.S. producer, or group of producers, pledges a portion of its crop to the program. The money generated from the sale of that portion of the crop is then distributed through the bank to development agencies with projects in 30 countries. The award will be presented on Oct. 10 at the Iowa Hunger Summit.
