For-profit college EDMC agrees to forgive more than $102 million in loans

122 wordsAll Latest News, Education, Government Policy and LawFor-profit college Education Management Corp. on Monday entered into a multistate agreement led by Iowa Attorney General Tom Miller to significantly reform its recruiting and enrollment practices and forgive approximately $500,000 in loans for more than 600 former Iowa students. EDMC, based in Pittsburgh, operates 110 schools in 32 states and Canada. Nationwide, the agreement with attorneys general in 39 states plus the District of Columbia requires the for-profit college company to forgive $102.8 million in outstanding loan debt held by more than 80,000 former students. The agreement will put in place a significant interactive online financial disclosure tool required for all prospective students who utilize federal student aid or loans. In Iowa, the company operates Brown Mackie College-Quad Cities in Bettendorf.
