Funeral for Michael “Mike” Carver planned for July 2

Michael Carver, a banker and long-time commercial real estate broker in the Des Moines market, died May 27.

He was 83.

Carver was born in Rochester, Minn., and grew up in Waverly, where he worked for his father, who owned Carver Lumber.

He attended the University of Iowa, where he played men’s basketball for three years. He also served six years with the U.S. Army Reserves.

Carver moved to Des Moines in 1965, and began his many years of service to the community. He was named Urbandale Citizen of the Year in 1980.

According to his obituary from Caldwell Parrish Funeral Home and Crematory, he was a banker before he became a commercial real estate broker, mentoring many brokers over the years.

Carver also was actively involved in many community organizations, serving on several boards and commissions. His obituary said his greatest focus was on the YMCA’s Fatherhood Initiative.

Funeral mass is scheduled for 11 a.m. on Wednesday, July 2, at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 3663 66th St., in Urbandale. Visitation will be held prior to the mass beginning at 10 a.m.

Burial will follow at McDivitt Grove Cemetery in Urbandale.
